On this project a Drupal core theme was built for the Travel Money Group websites. This was first used for the main Travel Money Oz brand, and was then used to roll out sites for Travel Money USA and Travel Money NZ.
An external agency were used for the brand concept and I took over internally for UI / UX, ensuring the concept translated as a usable website, adhering to best practices, being visually consistent, high-res ready, and of course responsive. Noteworthy features I designed include the foreign currency page including a call-to-action widget, and the store finder page.
My main role was, however, front-end developer based, with work involving initial implementation of the theme and on-going improvements. I also developed a custom module which leveraged the TravelEx API to update foreign currency rates on the site. This was built as a centralised module with settings that could be configured for each of the sub theme sites. A key complication was the fact that as these sites are high traffic, several caching layers including Varnish and Akamai are used, and ensuring that up-to-date content was always served required extra logic under the hood.
